Sustainment Brigade Complex Administration Facility

$8.5 million contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the construction of the Sustainment Brigade Complex Administration Facility at Ft. Campbell, Ky.

The 30,900 square-foot building consists of a reinforced concrete foundation, concrete floor slab, insulated concrete form walls, masonry and metal panel facade, standing seam metal roof, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, mechanical systems, security systems and electrical systems.

This building served as Ft. Campbell’s FY2012 Pilot Project for Sustainable Design and was designed by USACE to meet LEED Silver requirements by USGBC. However, J&S Construction reached LEED Gold Certification at no additional cost to the government.

Environmentally friendly features built into the project include pervious pavement, rainwater harvesting and reuse system, and low flow water fixtures. Energy-efficient features include photovoltaic solar panels, solar water heating, insulated concrete forms, spray foam insulation as well as an enhanced Energy Monitoring and Control System (EMCS). The project also contains the first photovoltaic solar panel system and first geothermal heat pump system at Ft. Campbell.

On a base with over 4,000 existing buildings, this project contained Ft. Campbell’s first geothermal heat pump system as well as the first photovoltaic solar system.

Design elements and processes used for this project can be replicated on future projects at Ft. Campbell.

J&S Construction performed more than 90,700 man hours and 6,800 equipment hours with no lost-time accidents.
