Kerr Wildlife Management Area Conference Center

When J&S Construction was contacted by Texas Parks and Wildlife to come assist them in a desperate time of need, we jumped at the chance to go lend a helping hand, packed our crew and headed west. The original contractor had walked away from this 4,433 square-foot project at the end of 2008, and it had remained unfinished for close to a year until J&S Construction was contacted directly through Texas P&W Department to complete the job starting in September of 2009.

Arriving at the site, J&S Construction saw the job was barely in the beginning stages of construction, with only the foundation and rough framing completed. J&S Construction began what should have been an eight-month process and turned the project around in less than six months and delivered a finished project on time as promised.

The facility includes some unique features such as timber framed roof trusses for the conference room, tongue and groove cedar interior for ceilings and walls, custom built stone fireplace that allowed two fires (one interior, one exterior), cove lighting in the restroom, custom stained concrete floor, state of the art audio/visual equipment that included a HD Projector, built in speaker system for interior and exterior areas, Electronic Automated projection screen for presentations and customized marker board with four sliding panels. Other amenities include ADA cabinets and countertops for kitchen and bath, top of the line appliance, low flow toilets, urinals and faucets and solid plastic restroom partitions.

The facility is heated and cooled by three super efficient packaged HVAC units rated at 19 SEER, and utilized concealed vents and a custom spiral duct that fed the main conference room. The exterior was constructed using hardie board, stucco, custom field stone and rough cedar trim along with a custom built galvanized roof that was fabricated and installed on-site. Custom landscaping was performed that included crushed decomposed granite walkways, custom stone steps and entrances, stacked limestone retaining wall with built in flower beds and topped off with natural boulders and Colorado River rock.
